Putting An End To Your Slice – A Simple Tip
If there is one aspect of driving the ball that drives golfers nuts, it is the slice. If you have a legendary slice, one simple might do the trick when it comes to mastering it.
You place your ball and step up to the tee. It is a beautiful, crisp morning that fairway is glistening. You take a few practice swings and then get in your stance. Back goes the club. Down it comes. You rotate your hips through the swing. Your driving a golf ball. There it goes majestically down the fairway and…off to the right…into the trees…no onto the road…oh, that broken window isn’t going to be cheap to repair! Most of us don’t slice this badly, but nearly every golfer has a slice problem.
So, how can we fix this? How can we hit a golf ball straight? The tip is a simple one anybody can use. Get in your stance. Now take a half step forward of the ball. We tend to think that driving the ball requires us to get behind it and give it a ride. This is a recipe for a healthy slice. Why? A great drive is one where the club face hits the ball flush. When you stand a bit behind the ball, the club head will be facing slightly in towards your hips because you will be entering the follow through of your swing. This will spin the ball a bit horizontally and create a slice that would make a baseball pitcher weep with joy. By stepping forward, we move the club face horizontal to the ball and get rid of the slice.
As an added benefit, this approach will usually add distance to your drives. Why? Your club speed should be naturally increasing as you drive through the ball. Hitting the ball slightly earlier in your swing will create more compression and distance.
Go to the driving range and experiment with moving forwards and backwards until you find the sweet spot of your swing. You will be surprised how such a simple adjustment can make such a dramatic impact.
