I’m in the Middle East at the moment and spent a night in a chalet on a beach at the weekend. I didn’t go into the water at all and had walking boots with socks on for most of the time, except for about 30mins when I was away from the water and sand. While sitting out I started to feel itchy on the back of my ankles on both feet and thought it was a mosquito bite but as I don’t really react too badly I took no notice. That was four days ago and I am still feeling itchy. My left ankle has a big red mark on it (about the size of a normal adult’s hand) with two puncture wounds and is sore, itchy, swollen slightly and painful when I touch it. It also hurts slightly or feels tight when I walk. I’m wondering what bit me; I’ve never had this kind of reaction to a bee or mosquito and used to get bitten by ants all the time when I lived in the UK and again never had a bad reaction. The other ankle, though a little red and itchy is not giving me any problems at all really.
